Almost three months after the first round of competition was played, the winner of the 2020 Auckland Premier League was decided last night as Eden Epsom and Henderson met in the grand final. Eden Epsom had the home court advantage but had a tough task ahead of them following the unavailability of top player Anthony Lepper due to an injury sustained during a tournament in the weekend.
Henderson took first blood with Leo Fatialofa earning a win over Justin Sayes 11-9 11-9 7-11 11-1 before Elijah Thomas evened the scores with a huge four game win in the battle of the #1's over Lance Beddoes 11-13 11-6 11-9 11-9. Apa Fatialofa Jr put Henderson back in the lead with a win over Tarin Love 6-11 11-6 11-9 11-4 leaving the title to be decided by the final match between Henderson's Jordan Tiplady and Eden Epsom's Ben Tomlinson. Tomlinson had the perfect start winning the first two games, however Tiplady fought back to win the next two games to secure an unassilable lead for Henderson before clinching the match in five 2-11 5-11 11-9 11-7 11-7
In the other playoff matches North Shore claimed third place after beating Royal Oak 12-3, Titirangi finished in 5th with a 10-6 win over Remuera, and Papakura earned 7th place following a default by Browns Bay
