Mt Albert Grammar and Westlake Girls Claim College Sport Team Champs Titles

After two days of tough competition at the North Shore Squash Club, the 2019 College Sport Squash Team Championship have been decided with Mt Albert Grammar (Boys Div 1) and Westlake Girls (Girls Div 1) claiming the shields.

The Girls Division 1 draw saw Westlake Girls joined by Orewa College, St Cutherbert's, and Epsom Girls in a round robin format.  The final round saw a showdown between Westlake Girls and Orewa College for the title, with the Westlake team of Myriam Lotfy, Danielle Duberly, Eva Gooch, Da Eun Baek, Hawon Ryu, and Jordan Smithson claiming the match and the title three games to two.  Orewa claimed second place while Epsom Girls came in third.

The Boys Division 1 draw saw nine teams competing with Mt Albert Grammar and Auckland Grammar making their way through two rounds to meet in the final.  As expected it was a tightly fought battle with Mt Albert Grammar and their team of Arnd Arelmann, Tarin Love, Jack Conder, Mason Smales, Jaeswan Kwan, and Max Conder emerging victorious in a very close three games to two win.

Over at the National Squash Centre the Boys and Girls Division 2 draws were being played out in great spirits.  The Girls draw saw six teams playing a full round robin with Mt Albert Grammar coming through all five matches unbeaten to take the title, while the Boys draw had a five-team round robin with Saint Kentigern going a perfect four-from-four to finish top of the table.

Overall 26 teams took part in the Teams Champs, up two from the previous years.  The teams now turn their focus back to the weekly College Sport competition with one eye on the National Secondary School Team Champs that will be held in Tauranga from 2-4 August.
