Auckland has named a strong squad to contest the upcoming Senior National Inter-District Teams Event, being held at the Hawkes Bay Squash Rackets Club on 18/19 August. Both Men's and Women's teams will be looking to build on their results from last year at Remuera where they finished second and third respectively against very tough competition - with this year set to be no different.
The Men's team will have the services of top juniors Matthew Lucente and Gabe Yam of Belmont Park after they missed the 2016 event due to a clash of commitments with the NZ Secondary Schools team. They will form a formidable 1-2 punch at the top of the order and will be joined by Belmont Park teammate Sam Sayes, who was a member of the 2016 NZ Junior Boys team, Panmure's Brad Robinson, and Royal Oak's Richard Thompson.
The Women's squad sees four of the five team members from last year returning for another crack at the National title. Ellie Epke (Remuera), Abbie Palmer (North Shore), Juee Bhide (Belmont Park) and Priscilla Wildsmith (Remuera) are joined by first-time Auckland representative Tracey Kimble of Royal Oak in a young but experienced line-up.
The team will be coached by Glen Wilson, who will head to the event fresh off a trip to Manchester in early August where he will be coaching the New Zealand team at the World Doubles Championships.
We wish the team all the best of luck, and we will have updates from throughout the event on our Facebook page.
