20 Men's teams and 6 Women's teams from squash clubs around the country converged on the Herne Bay Ponsonby Rackets Club and the North Shore Squash Club over Queen's Birthday weekend for the annual National Club Teams Championships, the Cousins Shield (Men) and Mitchell Cup (Women).  

The largest Men's field in a number of years saw 10 of the 20 teams coming from Auckland clubs, while 4 of the 6 Women's teams were also local.  In one of the most evenly contested competitions for years, the Cousins Shield saw plenty of upsets and was evenutally taken out after three days of competition by first-time winners Devoy Squash & Fitness from Tauranga who managed to defeat the host club Herne Bay in a tense final in front of a vocal home crowd.  The Women's draw came down to Thorndon (Wellington) taking on Belmont Park, with Thorndon managing the victory three matches to one.

Well done to the Herne Bay club and Tournament Director Scott Kittelty who put in a huge effort in organising a fantastic event, and who were well supported by Sharon Crawford and North Shore as the second venue.  Congratulations to all the teams who competed over the weekend, with plenty of exceptional squash and club pride on show.
