Grading List Publication Dates
Grading Lists are published on the Squash NZ website on the 1st and 15th of March to December.
Printed Grading Lists are provided to clubs on the 1st April, 1st May, 15th June*, 1st August, 1st September, 1st October and 1st December.
*Super Champs - to be eligible to play Super Champs for any given club a player must be on the clubs 15th June Grading list.

Grading List FAQ's
Q. How can clubs and players ensure there are no delays in getting players points onto the Grading List?
A. Make sure each time you play in a tournament that your captain or the tournament controller has the correct code down for you.
A. If you change clubs, make sure your new club statistician puts through a Change of Player form as soon as possible, this form needs to include your new code.
A. Now that interclub is online there will be limited delay between play and the result showing on your player history.  Please note:  Players must be on the grading list (published version - 1st or 15th of each month) to be elligible to play interclub.

Q. Can I know exactly what my points are at any given time?
A. No. It is virtually impossible for a player to accurately calculate his/her point adjustments arising from matches between each grading list. A player has no way of knowing which results have or have not been entered into the system between each grading list or how many points they have gained/lost from playing the opposition. (i.e. the opponent’s points are unknown between each grading list).
Q. Why are there delays in my points going onto the grading list?
A. The delay can be caused by many errors;
An incorrect code, either yours or your opponents.
Tournament result delays can be caused by club statisticians not getting results to District Statistician within the first week. The District Statisticians job is to check over the tournament results against the draw. (Some Club Statisticians forget to send the draw, so nothing can be processed until it arrives at the District Statisticians office).
Once it is checked over, it is sent off to the National Input Office for processing. It then comes back to the District Statistician with any codes highlighted that may have been entered incorrectly.
Sometimes the player has changed clubs but the tournament director hasn't been informed and some are no longer on the current grading list.
Sometimes there has been an error when the Club statistician adds the results onto the tournament result form from the draw, and sometimes, the player has given an incorrect code.
These errors also have to be corrected by the District Statistician, who then sends it back to the National Input Office.
Interclub results are being sent into the National Input Office every 2-3 days. 
Tournament results are being turned over the same day the tournament is received by the District Statistician.
In a perfect world, the results should take no more than 10 days to turnover.
 
Junior Grades
Junior grades are as follows:

The 'J' Grades 
The "J Grades" are "starter grades" for young "beginner" juniors. Improving skill levels will result in movement through the "J" grades to the "F" grade, which is currently promoted as the "beginner" grade for "adults" with little or no prior experience.
With the above scale of points - 100 points per junior grade -, junior players gain 30 points per win for matches against an opponent of a similar grade (i.e. players within 100 points of each other). 3 / 4 wins will be required to move up through a full "junior" grade.
A loss to a similar graded opponent (i.e. players within 100 points of each other) will result in the loss of 20 points. 5 / 6 losses will be required to move down through a full "junior" grade.

Playing Standard - Ages
As noted above, the "J" grades are primarily intended for the young juniors who are beginners, or who have only been playing for two or three seasons. The "J" grades are the "starter" grades for juniors who have limited ability, but wish to participate in competition - tournaments and interclub.
In general terms, it is expected that juniors in the J5 and J4 grades will be 6/8 year olds, who are "learners" in their first season. (i.e. still learning to serve, return the serve correctly and start a rally.) Juniors in the J3 to J1 grades will more likely be 9 to 13 year olds, in their second or third seasons, with better ability than their younger J4/J5 club mates.
As with the "senior" grading list, it is very much a "judgement call" as to where a "new" junior player is placed in the junior grading list. The grade into which a "new" junior player is placed must be based on ability (or lack of ability). A junior seeking a grade may have been playing socially with their parent and or at junior club nights for some time before seeking a grade. In such cases the "new" junior is unlikely likely to be J4 or J5.
Each junior player must be assessed individually to ensure a correct grading.

"Equality of Grades - Boys / Girls"
Ideally, for the purposes of the lower "J" grades (J5 to J3) it is the intention that boys and girls should be of similar playing ability, but not necessarily the same age. (For example, "J3 girl" should approximately equate to a "J3" boy", however a boy may be in his first/second season and 8 to 9 years old, where as a girl may be in her second/third season and 10 to 11 years old.)
The prime purpose of attempting an equality of playing standard, is to facilitate MIXED interclub and tournament competition for the young juniors in the J grades, where in many cases there are insufficient girls to enable single sex tournament draws / interclub teams.
However, once the boys and girls reach the "J2-J1" grades the difference in standard will become more evident, and an allowance will need to be made for the difference in playing standard in mixed competition (as is currently necessary) when compiling both tournament draws and particularly interclub teams for J2 to E2 boys and girls.
Where mixed interclub teams are permitted (by a district), the competition organisers MUST ensure that the playing standard of the boys and girls is approximately equal. For example, to provide even competition for junior players in mixed interclub teams, the teams will probably need be comprised as follows: E2 girls & F/J1 boys. F girls & J1/J2 boys.
It should be noted that mixed competition - girl’s v's boys - should be the exception rather than the norm. Girls should only be placed in the boys draws in tournaments where there are insufficient girls of the same standard. Likewise, with mixed interclub teams, it expected that boys play boys and girls play girls, unless there is an imbalance in numbers. 

Matches between Boys & Girls
The senior grading list, does not currently permit matches between male and female players without the female using a "male" player code.
To allow the results of matches between JUNIOR boys and girls (both tournaments and interclub) to count for grading purposes, the current "separation" of players in the senior grading system will be over-ridden. Matches between junior boys and girls, below 1200 points - the top of E2 - will be valid for grading purposes.
A special "points adjustment" will be applied for such matches. It will be: plus 30 points for the winner & minus 20 points for the loser. The standard points scale applicable for wins and losses will not apply for mixed matches.
However, as indicated above, junior tournament and interclub organisers should be aware that there is already a difference in playing standard between F grade boys/girls, and E2 grade boys/girls, and this difference in playing standard MUST be compensated for when tournament draws and interclub teams are complied. While competition between boys and girls is being provided for, such competition should be the exception, especially above J1 grade.

Block on dropping down grades
The grading system will be adjusted to stop F grade players - juniors and seniors - "dropping" into the "Junior 1-5" grades as a result of losses against other players. A similar block will be put into the grading system so that E2 players (seniors or juniors) will not be able to drop back to F grade, regardless of competition results.

Published Grading Lists
For practical reasons and purposes, the male and female sections of the National Grading List are separated and will remain as such. The "J" grade players will show on all published grading lists in a similar manner to the current A1 - F grades. 

Adding Juniors to the Grading List
Junior players will not be able to be added to the "J" grading list without a "date of birth" being provided as part of the "add player" detail.
